LEXINGTON, Ky. - Keeneland’s reformatted September yearling sale catalog will number 4,857 this year, down 6 percent from last year in a climate of shrinking North American foal crops.
The September sale will run Sept. 12-26 at Keeneland’s Lexington sale pavilion. But this year its first two sessions, the auction’s select portion, will be limited to a total of 211 yearlings and will be held at night. Traditionally, the sale’s first two days have been all-day sessions. The 2010 evening sessions on Sunday, Sept. 12, and Monday, Sept. 13, will begin at 7 p.m.
The sale will continue with daytime sessions Sept. 14-17, selling about 325 yearlings a day and cataloged in alphabetical order by dam. After taking a dark day on Sept. 18, the auction will resume with the remainder of the yearlings selling in daytime sessions through Sept. 26.
All daytime sessions will begin at 10 a.m.
Catalogs will be available at www.keeneland.com from Aug. 10 and in printed copies from Aug. 23. The 2010 catalog consists of 2,562 colts, 2,292 fillies, and three geldings by a total of 294 domestic and foreign sires.
Keeneland will provide streaming coverage of the 14-day auction on its website.
