Trainers Robertino Diodoro and Jim Meyaard, first and second in the trainers standings at Northlands Park, will lock heads in Wednesday’s feature The second-level allowance race for 3-year-olds and up drew nine horses and goes as race 7 on the eight-race card that begins at 6 p.m.
Feel the Moment, trained by Diodoro, has a bit more speed and could have the edge in the 6 1/20-furlong dash. The main concern with Feel the Moment, who is a 4 yeas old, is that he has been stuck at this level since he won a first-level allowance race more than a year ago. He is coming off of a strong performance where he was part of a three-horse duel and the got nipped at the wire by Ready Racer in a six-furlong race at this level Aug.
Jorge Carreno retains the mount.
Road Talk, who races for Meyaard, also set the pace and then narrowly lost in his latest start. The difference is he was going around three turns in a one-mile $32,000 optional race. A 3-year-old, Road Talk could have more upside potential than Feel the Moment, but he has only run in only one sprint in his career when he debuted in a maiden special weight race at Woodbine last year.
Trainer Twylia Bensmiller has Midtown Bullet in sharp form. He was favored in the same race Fifth Moment exits and after forcing the early pace he tired to finish third. He was disqualified and placed last for cutting off Gatwick going down the backstretch, however. In his previous start he won a first-level allowance race by more than seven lengths.
Gatwick could rebound off of his compromised trip. Trained by Rick Wise, he was second in a similar race in his previous start for trainer Rick Wise.
