ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. has been down the Woodbine Mile road on three previous occasions, including second-place finishes with the late Kip Deville in 2007 and with Rebel Rebel in 2006.
On Sunday, Dutrow will have another solid shot at the top prize in the Grade 1, $1 million turf race for 3-year-olds and up when he sends out Court Vision for the IAEH Stable and Resolute Group Stable.
“It’s been on our minds for a while,” said Dutrow, who gave Court Vision some time off following his sixth-place finish in the Grade 1 Manhattan over 1 1/4 miles of turf at Belmont Park on June 5.
“He’s won at the distance before, and I’m sure he can do it again. I’m hoping that he likes it up there.”
Court Vision has won two of his three starts over a mile of turf, taking Keenland’s Grade 1 Shadwell Turf Mile last fall and finishing second there in the Maker’s Mark this spring.
His other outing at the distance came in last year’s Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile at Santa Anita, in which he was beaten just 1 1/2 lengths as the fourth-place finisher.
Court Vision has been at Saratoga, working six times between July 21 and Sept. 13.
The Woodbine Mile will be one of two Breeders’ Cup Win and You’re In races here Sunday, along with the Grade 1, $750,000 Northern Dancer at 1 1/2 miles on the turf.
The Woodbine Mile is slated to go postward at 5:42 p.m. Eastern as the 10th of 11 races on a card that begins at 1 p.m.
The Northern Dancer will be the eighth race, with a scheduled post time of 4:34 p.m.
Sunday’s card also will feature the Grade 2, $300,000 Canadian, a 1 1/8-mile turf race for fillies and mares that is carded as race 4 and will go off at approximately 2:30 p.m.
