Sunday is the closing day of the marathon Turf Paradise meeting, and the traditional final race of the meeting is the $25,000 Hasta La Vista Handicap over 1 7-8 miles on turf.
The race drew a field of 11, and is run over two circuits of the turf course, starting in an infield chute.
Leading trainer Mike Chambers starts the likely favorite, Rate of Change, who won the key prep race, the Wildcat Handicap over 1 3-8 miles on turf on April 3. Fox in the House, claimed for $6,250 on March 12, won a prep over 1 1-2 mles on turf on April 12.
The third-place finisher in the Wildcat, Troubletimesthree, closed from ninth in a field of 10 to miss by 1 1-2 lengths. Southern California-based trainer Leonard Powell is hoping the extended distance will work to the advantage of Troubletimesthree.
"If we need more distance, we're in trouble," Powell said.
The race is due off at 5 p.m., Pacific.
