The gate-to-wire win for Strike It Rich in the Little Silver Stakes last time was understandable, from a handicapping standpoint, as there was no speed in the race, and he took full advantage. How he was able to shake loose and back down the fractions in today's Boiling Springs is another question entirely. Triple Cream had enough speed to at least force Strike It Rich to run a little early, and stretch-out sprinter Island Time never showed he can rate even in one-turn races. How is it possible he's going to rate off the pace and make one run in his two-turn, route debut? It's not. So we're left with Strike It Rich alone on the lead through a :48 half mile, and the race is effectively over. If it sounds like a bitter rant, maybe it is. I'll be looking to bet against Strike It Rich next time, on the assumption that he's not handed another easy lead.
Talkin About Love is cold as can be on the board in the upcoming Lighthouse Stakes (the 10th), in Pick 5 and Pick 3 payoffs, and he's 21-1, but I'm using her in exotics, as she was up against the race flow in her latest, and she should get a better set-up today. Unless everyone takes back and lets another horse steal it.
