Smoken Smoke, a 9-year-old who has won his last two races, has opened up as the 4-5 favorite in the upcoming ninth race, but the race doesn't appear to be so one-sided on paper.
Red Spider is 6-1 right now. He is moving back to dirt and the claiming ranks, the site of his last two wins, after facing $7,500 starter allowance foes on turf. And that race was a strong one. The winner, Flatland Fever, came back in his next start to take a first-level allowance turf sprint at LS with a Beyer Figure of 80.
Red Spider, meanwhile, earned a pair of 80 Beyer Figures in his last two dirt starts, both at LS.
Another horse of interest is 5-1 shot Cameronluckypride. He is maknig his first start since February, but he was second last out in a productive $7,500 starter allowance. The fourth-place finisher, Fiery Choice, came back in his next start to win a $7,500 claimer at Delta Downs with a Beyer of 71 and the fifth-place finisher, Little Capt., took a $35K optional claimer at Sam Houston, with a Beyer of 75.
