Apprentice jockey Kris Fox was taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center for treatment following a one-horse spill in the fifth race. He was thrown to the ground when his mount, Old Silverhead, broke down and fell while racing on the lead. The incident happened midway on the turn of a claiming sprint. Fox appeared to have avoided serious injuries.
“He complained of pain in his upper back,” said Dan Leary, a spokesman for Lone Star. “He was conscious in first aid and talking. He moved all of his extremities, and they took him to Methodist Dallas Medical Center.”
Old Silverhead had to be euthanized, according to the Lone Star board of stewards.
