Apprentice Kris Fox, who fractured his T6 vertebra in a one-horse spill Thursday night at Lone Star, was released Friday afternoon from Methodist Dallas Medical Center.
"After seeing a specialist, who determined that surgery was not necessary, Kris was fitted with a brace and released from the hospital," Travis Church, the rider's agent, said in a release issued by Lone Star. "Right now he's at home, in the hotel, resting. He'll need to do a follow-up examination in a week to re-evalute the injury."
Fox was injured in the fifth race Thursday, when his mount, Old Silverhead, broke down and fell midway on the turn of a claiming sprint. Fox was unseated. Earlier this year, the apprentice had been based at Sam Houston.
