It is cloudy and 72 degrees at Lone Star Park with about an hour to post for the first race. It has threatened to rain all afternoon, and while we have not seen precipitation it looks as if we could before the night is out.
There are just a few scratches to report. In the first, take out No. 8, Sabra; in the fourth, scratch No. 12, Twelve Oclock High; and in the ninth, take out No. 7, Crook's Spirit, and No. 11, Meaux Speed.
As we move into the ninth card of the meet, jockey Junior Chacaltana has a one-win lead in the standings over Chris Landeros; Bret Calhoun and Danny Pish are tied atop the trainer standings; and Tom Durant is the current leading owner at Lone Star.
Favorites have been winning at a 44 percent rate, taking 34 of the 77 races run at this point, according to stats provided by Lone Star.
