The Grade 3, $200,000 Lone Star Derby is the richest of three stakes for 3-year-olds set for the Saturday afternoon card at Lone Star. It drew a field of six horses led by Henshin Hero, who showed talent this winter at Oaklawn when winning back to back sprint allowances. Game On Dude ships in for trainer Bob Baffert for the mile and a sixteenth race, while Crider might get a nice stalking trip for Lone Star's all-time winningest trainer, Steve Asmussen.
There will also be two mile and a sixteenth divisions of the Texas Stallion Stakes on the card, each worth $100,000. Coyote Legend will be seeking his fifth straight stakes win in the colts and geldings division, which goes as the third race, while his stablemate, Tin Top Cat, is seeking her fifth career win in the fillies division, which goes as the seventh race. Both horses are trained by Bret Calhoun, who also conditions Henshin Hero.
The Lone Star Derby goes as the ninth on a 10-race card Saturday. It has a scheduled post of 5:19 Central.
