Red Coyote appeared to have dwelt at the start of the eighth race, then threw his rider shortly after coming out of the gate. He was quickly caught by outriders, and returned safe and sound to his handlers. Red Coyote was declared a starter by stewards after an inquiry into the break. The horse is a half-brother to multiple stakes winners Gold Coyote and Coyote Legend.
