The upcoming sixth race, a turf allowance route for 3-year-old fillies, figures to produce some stakes starters. Stormy Lypard, in fact, could head next to graded competition at either Del Mar or Saratoga with a good performance in the seven and a half furlong race, according to her trainer, Butch Marshall. She is a candidate for either the Grade 2 Lake George at Saratoga on July 28, or the Grade 2 San Clemente on July 25.
Stormy Lypard defeated male rivals in a first-level allowance for 3-year-olds last time, winning with a career-high Beyer Figure of 81. She is shortening up from a mile for this race, and Marshall's main concern is that the distance is less than optimum for her. Jill Marie, meanwhile, can be closer to the pace than the late-running Stormy Lypard, and is the current second choice to that one, at 5-2.
Jill Marie is stakes placed and in her last start she edged Fortunia for a head win in an allowance for fillies and mares at Lone Star. Fortunia came back in her next start and ran second in the Grade 3, $200,000 Ouija Board Distaff at Lone Star.
