Premier Edge, who is the current 4-1 second choice for the upcoming ninth race, a $20,000 optional claiming allowance over seven furlongs, had unusual trouble in her most recent start. She comes out of a starter allowance that was declared a no-contest after a horse left the gate in the blanket in which she loaded.
That horse crossed over to the lead while still in the blanket, then shed it with Premier Edge right behind her along the fence. Premier Edge moved up into the rail as the blanket flared, then ended up finishing fourth as one of the top choices.
This afternoon, Premier Edge is seeking to become the third next-out winner from the 'blanket' race, with the first-place finisher, La Poli, returning to take a $6,250 starter allowance in her next start and the fifth-place finisher, Rocks N Rings, a $10,000 claiming race. Both wins came at Lone Star.
