Red Coyote will make his career debut in the upcoming eighth race and he is bred to be a good one. He is a half-brother to both Gold Coyote, a multiple stakes-winning sprinter who has earned more than $400,000, and Coyote Legend, who will be seeking his fifth straight stakes win on Saturday in the $100,000 Stymie division of the Texas Stallion Stakes at Lone Star.
Red Coyote goes in a maiden special weight for 2-year-olds bred in Texas. The race will be run over four and a half furlongs, and he will break from post 4 under Cliff Berry. Red Coyote races for his breeder, Clarence Scharbauer Jr., and is trained by Bret Calhoun, the same connections behind Gold Coyote and Coyote Legend.
The three horses are all from the Seeking the Gold mare Coyote Cafe. Red Coyote is a son of Early Flyer. His older half-brothers are by Gold Legend, and both won their maidens in their second career starts at Lone Star.
