Considering the competition that Coloursoftheglen and Thomas Baines have faced in recent starts, Friday's fifth race will be a relief.
Coloursoftheglen was second to Line of David in an allowance race over a mile on turf at Santa Anita on March 11. Line of David returned to win the Arkansas Derby earlier this month and is bound for the Kentucky Derby next weekend.
Thomas Baines did not fare very well in the Santa Anita Derby, finishing seventh of 10. He finished 9 1-4 lengths behind Sidney's Candy, another Kentucky Derby contender.
Friday, Coloursoftheglen will be ridden by Alonzo Quinonez, who was aboard on the March 11 race. Quinonez is likely to have the 3-year-old colt a few lengths off the pace. Thomas Baines is entered for an $80,000 claiming price, the first time that has occured in his 13-race career.
Coloursoftheglen and Thomas Baines are part of a field of eight. They must beat Hockley and Theatrical Pro, maiden race winners at Santa Anita in recent weeks. Keen Bidder makes his second start in the U.S. He was a troubled sixth in his U.S. debut on March 18 and will be ridden by Santa Anita leading jockey Rafael Bejarano.
