Taro was widely regarded as a filly to watch when she beat maidens in her career debut last June. Nearly 11 months later, the same form was on display when she won her first start around two turns, in an allowance race for state-bred females over 1 1-16 miles in Sunday's fourth race.
Ridden by Mike Smith, Taro was timed in 1:44.21, holding a threat from Thisoneforyou in deep stretch, who had one her first two starts.
Taro races for trainer Clifford Sise and breeders Marty and Pam Wygod. The 3-year-old filly was a troubled third in the Warren's Thoroughbreds Stakes, an allowance race, on April 24, a race that Sise confidently stated that she would win in the days before the race. Taro certainly wasn't embarassed in that start. She rallied from sixth to finish 1 3-4 lengths behind Excellent News, who returns in an allowance race in Sunday's eighth race.
