Self Made, who won his first two starts at Santa Anita, finished a respectable fourth in his turf debut in Monday's seventh race, and did not have the best of trips.
Ridden by Tyler Baze, Self Made was inside to early stretch, racing in traffic. He moved to the outside in mid-stretch and closed well late to finish 2 1-2 lengths behind Megastar ($9.20), who won his second consecutive race for trainer Ron Ellis. Megastar, 4, ran 1 1-16 miles on turf in a quick 1:40.82.
Self Made is trained by John Sadler. He fits with first-condition allowance class horses in two-turn races on either surfaces.
