The second-time starter River's Chapel won a maiden special weight for 2-year-olds in Sunday's first race, leading throughout the five-furlong race. Ridden by Christian Santiago Reyes, River's Chapel ($3.20) finished 1 3-4 lengths in front of Lana's Smile in the field of six and was timed in 58.33 seconds.
Sunday's opening race was the first 2-year-old race of the season over five furlongs.
River's Chapel is trained by Walther Solis, who has now won seven races at the meeting, five with 2-year-olds.
Solis had two runners in the field. Doughboy, who eventually finished third, had a troubled trip on the backstretch when racing in traffic between horses.
The race was run with a strong crosswind when the field is on the backstretch and homestretch.
