Jockey Jose Valenzuela's first two mounts on Saturday produced a diverse pair of results.
In the first race, Valenzuela did not have a sharp ride on Acute Velocity, who finished third in a $12,500 claimer. Acute Velocity was in trouble entering the turn and through the turn before finishing 2 1-4 lengths behind My Aunt Fanny ($6.40). With better luck, Acute Velocity could have finished second.
In the second race, Valenezuela had much better luck, guiding Miles Rules ($32.20) to a frontrunning win in a maiden race for state-bred 2-year-old fillies. It was Valenzuela's first win of the meeting.
