Bogie ($4.60) scored his first win in the United States in Wednesday's fifth race for 3-year-olds on turf, leading trainer Paddy Gallagher to consider turf stakes at Hollywood Park and Del Mar this summer for the two-time winner.
Ridden by Alex Solis, who flew in from Kentucky for the race, Bogie rallied three-wide on the turn and outgamed Lucky Rave to win by a half-length, finishing 1 1-16 miles on turf in 1:43.09. Lucky Rave finished 2 1-4 lengths in front of Fantastic Pick.
The style of Bogie's win left Solis impressed. "I think he's special," he said. The jockey is currently riding at Churchill Downs, which did not race on Wednesday.
Owned by Jon Kelly, Bogie was third in the La Puente Stakes at Santa Anita in his U.S. debut in April. Bogie won a maiden race on turf in Ireland last fall.
Gallagher said the $100,000 Cinema Handicap over 1 1-16 miles on turf for 3-year-olds on June 20 is a possibility.
