Nashoba's Excess, a half-sister to the late multiple stakes winner Nashoba's Key , won her first race in her second start in Monday's fifth race.
Nashoba's Excess ($5.80) ran a mile on turf in 1:36, beating a fast-closing Laura Beasley by a half-length.
Laura Beasley is trained by Matt Chew, who also started Kahlua Mist, a 60-1 shot. Kahlua Mist stumbled leaving the gate, unseating jockey Christian Santiago Reyes, who landed on his feet and kept ahold of the reins, preventing the 4-year-old filly from running loose in the race. For his action, Reyes was the recepient of a round of applause from the on-track crowd, while the rest of the field ran around the first turn.
