Global Hunter suffered an ankle injury a few strides after a win in the Grade 2 American Handicap on Sunday. An effort was being made to save the 7-year-old multiple stakes winner, according to trainer A.C. Avila.
Global Hunter won the American by a head over a game pacesetter in Temple City, who led by a length at the eighth pole. Hyades finished an unlucky third. Ridden by Victor Espinoza, Hyades was stuck behind horses entering the stretch before he was taken wide. Hyades finished well but was a half-length behind Temple City at the wire.
