There were five starters in Wednesday's first race, and three of them led in the final quarter-mile.
Pacesetter Towser was caught in the stretch by Swiss Arrogant, who could not hold off a late run from Plantsite ($8.20), who won by 2 1-4 lengths over Swiss Arrogant. Plantsite ran 6 1-2 furlongs in 1:16.85 under jockey Martin Garcia.
A 3-year-old gelding, Plantsite has won 3 of 5 starts. Wednesday's race was his first start for trainer Ral Ayers. At Turf Paradise, where Plantsite made his first four starts, he was trained by Kevin Lewis, winning a maiden claimer and a $16,000 claimer.
Ayers is the assistant to trainer Jeff Mullins, who is currently serving a suspension.
