Dawnie Macho led throughout Sunday's $100,000 Landaluce Stakes for 2-year-old fillies to confirm that her track-record winning performance at Arlington Park last month was genuine. But the filly who was catching the eye in the final sixteenth was the runner-up Izshelegal, who was making her career debut for trainr Terry Knight and a partnership.
Izshelegal, dismissed at 20-1, was last of eight after a quarter-mile, and rallied between fillies through the stretch to finish three-quarters of a length behind the winner.
"I though she would run big, but unfortunately she came running a little bit late," said jockey Victor Espinoza. "I haven't been on her, but I watched her work and I saw that she did everything nice and comfortable."
