Tappin Tough ($14.80) caught On a Hi in the final stride to win Saturday's second race for 2-year-old maidens, after 8-5 favorite Cabo San Lucas bolted on the turn of the maiden race over 4 1-2 furlongs.
Cabo San Lucas broke from post 9, and raced wide on the backstretch before drifting to the outside fence under jockey Silvio Amador on the turn. He was out of contention with three furlongs remaining.
On a Hi took over from pacesetter Secret Agreement in the final sixteenth, but held the lead for only a few strides. Tappin Tough was timed in 53.06 seconds. He was ridden by Christian Santiago Reyes for trainer Walther Solis, who has already won three 2-year-old races at this meeting which began on April 21.
The first two finishers wore the same silks since they are co-owned by Terry Lovingier and owned by Russel Lovingier. Terry Lovingier bred both runners.
