Utopian, who will make his debut in Saturday's fifth race in 18 minutes, has been the subject of a notable early wager. Listed at 12-1 on the morning-line, Utopian is currently the 2-1 favorite.
Trained by John Shirreffs, Utopian has drawn the rail in a one-mile turf race for maidens, which features 12 runners. Utopian, by Rock Hard Ten, will be ridden by Mike Smith, who does well with Shirreffs (Zenyatta, Giacomo).
Shirreffs does not have a stellar record with first-time starters in the last year, but he went through a phase about five years ago when several such runners succeeded.
