There is a massive two-day carryover of $514,127 for Sunday's nine-race program after a series of upsets occurred on Saturday's Hollywood Gold Cup program.
Going into Saturday's last race, there was a live pick six ticket on Willis in a sprint for maiden claimers, but the gelding could only finish sixth, well beaten by Rock 'n Rule ($12.60).
Sunday's pick six covers the fourth through ninth races and is dominated by sprints. There is only one race around two turns, the fourth race, a $40,000 claimer over a mile on turf. The fourth race also features the smallest field in the pick six, with six runners led by Fire Break (a 2-1 shot on morning-line).
In the fifth race, run over seven furlongs for $10,500 to $12,500 claimers that have not won twice, there is no standout. Celebration and So Hottie are among the leading choices, but Ten's Salty Sally, who won her last start, is the likely favorite.
In the sixth race, Nostalgic Bid is the 6-5 favorite in a maiden claimer over six furlongs, but has already lost two such races at this meeting. However, he faces a dreadful field and may win by default.
The seventh race is an allowance race over six furlongs. Imco Spirit is the 5-2 morning-line favorite, and starts from the outside in a field of seven. On May 31, Imco Spirit was seventh in a similar race over 7 1-2 furlongs, fading badly in the final furlong. The shorter distance on Sunday may help. Mensa Heat, who has won two of his last three starts, will be a factor.
The day's leading race is the $100,000 Landaluce Stakes for 2-year-old fillies over six furlongs. Belleofthebridle, second to males in the Willard Proctor Stakes here on May 31, is expected to go favored, but must beat She'll Heir, who won the Cinderella Stakes on June 9, and Dawnie Macho, who won her debut at Arlington Park by five lengths on June 12 and was subsequently bought privately by Gary and Cecil Barber. John Sadler is Dawnie Macho's new trainer.
The last race is a maiden race for California-bred 2-year-olds. Stormin Rae, a troubled second in his debut on June 5, and Woodman's Luck, who was fifth in his debut on May 9 but has worked quickly in recent weeks, headline a field of 10.
