Jockey Rafael Bejarano won five races at Hollywood Park on Wednesday, and was a little put off that he did not have a six-win afternoon.
Bejarano finished second aboard Red Eye Express in the seventh race, losing by a head to Red Door Drive despite a fast finish.
The 28-year-old jockey did one better in the eighth race, closing from fourth between fillies with a furlong remaining to win a six-furlong turf sprint for $50,000 claimers by a half-length over Shesoprovocative aboard Sweet Hanni ($4.40).
Bejarano has been the hottest jockey in Southern California since returning from Kentucky earlier this month. He has won at least two races on the last seven racing programs, and has won with 19 of his last 44 mounts.
Through Wednesday, Bejarano leads the jockey's standings with 24 wins, four less than Tyler Baze, who began Wednesday with a 20-19 lead.
