Afleet Ruler ended a nine-race losing streak that lasted two years and four months with a nose win over Patriotic Soldier in Saturday's fourth race.
The best horse in the field may have finished fourth.
Buck's Bro, the 7-2 second choice, was in traffic at the eighth pole and was beaten 1 3-4 lengths by Afleet Ruler ($4.40), who ran 6 12 furlongs in 1:15.88. Patriotic Soldier, who was wide on the turn, finished just a head in front of Derive.
Afleet Ruler is trained by John Sadler, who also won Saturday's third race with Tuscan Moon. Afleet Ruler, 5, made his third start of the year on Saturday. In 2008, he was second in two stakes for 3-year-olds, but missed the entire 2009 season because of injury.
