So, I got back from the Jockey Club Round Table (more on that later) in time to make a modest pick-six play on today's $100k pick-six carryover, and decided to end the suspense early by virtually singling favored Unity in the first leg, a 2-year-old statebred turf route. Unity had run second to Spanky Fischbein and Law Enforcement in two good dirt efforts, had plenty of turf pedigree, and winning connections in Dutrow/Prado.
It looked like a good idea going into the stretch turn as Unity was rank but comfortably on the lead through reasonable fractions. Then he bolted to the outside fence, and that was that for four of my five tickets. Second choice Grasberg won what was left of the race, leaving me alive with just one puny 3x1x3x1x3 backup ticket: 167/9/2511/5/3610. Yuck.
