If you missed the last race of Majesticperfection at Oaklawn Park Apr. 1, in which he set a modest pace before quickening in the stretch to win in fast time...well, no worries. Simply watch the replay of Churchill's fourth race Friday.
It was a mirror image of that race. He set a moderate pace under confident handling, and accelerated powerfully away from his opponents under a hand ride, running six furlongs on a fast track under Shaun Bridgmohan in 1:08.36. He paid $2.60.
In winning at Oaklawn last month, he ran almost identically, running the three quarters there on the front end in 1:08.62, posting a 106 Beyer Speed Figure.
This colt, a 4-year-old by Harlan's Holiday trained by Steve Asmussen and owned by Padua Stables, has now won three in a row after beginning his career with a third-place finish in the mud at Fair Grounds. Preceding his Oaklawn triumph, he won a maiden race at Fairgrounds.
This appears to be a graded stakes horse in the making.
