Like we noted in the DRF print editions for today, this is the 5th time in 7 years that the pick 6 hasn't been hit at CD on Derby Day, leading to a big carryover for the first live day of racing afterward. Not only does the carryover in the $2-minimum p6 (races 5-10) stand at $947,641, which means the pot could very well approach $3 million after all bets are in, but the last-race super high 5 also sports a carryover of $147,065. Just another ginormous day here under the Twin Spires.
The main track is fast, turf is firm, with high temps expected to reach about 80 today before it starts cooling off this weekend.
There are a couple of notable changes in the p6 sequence: Spiritus, one of the logical plays in the 6th race, has been scratched, while Bird Island draws in as a major contender in the 10th and last race.
