A nice day here, not swelteringly hot, but somewhat of a bittersweet one for us CD regulars who now will be playing out the string in certain ways, not only with the Derby et al behind us, but now also the Foster and Fleur de Lis. Still ahead before we close shop July 4: three more Fri. nites of racing, a smattering of stakes including the 2yo twins, Debutante and Bashford Manor, and the Firecracker, along with quite possibly the return of Mine That Bird in a July 3 alw (at least there's one for him in the book).
Adding to our maudlin mood is the fact that some smart guy (or gal) was sharp enough to take down the entire p6 pool yesterday ($209k), even with several hard-to-get-to winners in the sequence (most notably the 9-1 winner in the Jeff Cup and the 32-1 winner in the Regret). Oh well.
Wow, wasn't Blame just awesome yesterday in running down loose-on-the-lead Battle Plan to win the Foster?? By comparison, that must mean Rachel was awesome, too, as she just jogged around the track and ran the 9 furlongs in .65 seconds faster than Blame . . . let the debate begin about whether the '09 HOY is "back." I'll let you guys handle that one . . .
The 10-race Sunday program isn't exactly, ahem, the best one they'll card here this meet . . . but it can't be Foster Day every day. A number of early changes to report. Fast track, firm turf, first post 12:45 ET. Good luck today. . .
