Calvin Borel became just the second jockey in CD history to win 1,000 races at this track when guiding heavily favored Gray Hart's Girl ($3.20) to a ridiculously easy score in the 4th race here Friday. Borel already had won the 2nd race on Brown Eyed Baby for his brother, trainer Cecil Borel. Only Pat Day, with 2,482 wins, has more CD victories than Borel, the 3-time Ky. Derby-winning jockey.
In that 4th race, jockey C.Lanerie was fortunate to stay aboard Over Served (#1) when the 4yo filly hesitated at the start, then attempted to jump the temporary inner rail. Having lost the race at the start, the filly proceeded to finish a decent 4th.
Also, as a footnote to an earlier race, the 3rd, the winner, Danzon, was claimed out of the alw/optional-claiming race for $80,000 by owner Alfred Nuckols Jr., with Jimmy Baker to assume the training of the 7yo mare.
There are 25 MTP for the 5th, and the wagering is fairly well spread on the board, with A.J.'s Conquest (#5) a surprising early fave at 5-2 in a field of 7 older claiming routers.
