Only three races in the books and already bettors have a taste of both ends of the spectrum when it comes to race results. A 1-5 winner in the opener and a 60-1 shocker in the third.
Chapel Run had to work for a while but ultimately drew off like a 1-5 shot to get the chalkplayers off to a good start and open a daily double that was completed by Mize The Big Cat who was bet to 2-1 following the scratch of morning line favorite Rexson's Rose. Mize the Big Cat covered six furlongs in 1:12, a pretty good time for near bottom level claimers.
Handicappers are still scratching their heads after Saratoga Blitz captured the third and paid $131.60, doing so despite having to take up from tight quarters on the far turn. Might want to check the lip tattoo of this horse who had never hit the board in 11 career starts while beaten an average of 21 lengths in his last 10 starts. The win was also just the second from 52 mounts this year for jockey Ramon Parish and the third from 78 starters for trainer Charles Fontana. The rail skimming winner got the money at the expense of the 8-5 Good Whiskey who fell back to last after walking out of the gate then lost considerable ground while rallying into the stretch.
