Grand Cash rallied from last after six furlongs to nip Dinner in Odem in the final jump to capture the Blazing Sword Stakes which was decided over a yielding turf course. Despite the scratches of several speed horses, Mean Sax never saw the lead after beating much the same bunch on the front end three weeks earlier in the Mecke and finished fourth as the 6-5 favorite. Another tough loss for Peter Wasiluk Jr., the trainer of Dinner in Odem, who remains winless from 40 starters at the meet.
Mean Sax was the ninth favorite to go down to victory on the card. Set the Trend kept the chalkees from being blanked up to this point when cruising to an easy win in the ninth race. Manny Cruz was aboard both Set the Trend and Grand Cash giving him three victories on the card. He'll go for a four bagger in two minutes aboard Don't Short Maria in the finale.
