Trainer Phil Gleaves, who suffered through a slow Gulfstream meeting, continues to pick up momentum at Calder. Gleaves sent out the winners of the second and third races on today's card with Bay of Wicklow running down the odds on Maximoso on the turf and Baystreet Bully also getting up in late stretch to defeat pace setter Keal over the main track 30 minutes later. The wins gave Gleaves, who has won the meet's only two graded stakes with Mambo Meister, seven victories for the session.
Philourpockets is the odds on 4-5 favorite with 10 minutes to post for the fourth race having turned in a nice effort following a poor start in his debut. Chon and Peace Buster getting the most action among the first timers in the 2-year-old maiden dash, both now held at 5-1.
