A trio of upsets to open the card made for a 3 of 4 payoff in the opening pick-4 on the card even though the favored Why I Love You closed out the series with a victory in the fourth race. Outsiders Distinct Key, My Friend Rossario and Hold Up pulled off the early surprises each leading throughout to earn their victories. Why I Love You also gutted out a wire to wire victory over the late running Purita who might have gotten to the winner if able to keep a straight course through the final furlong under jockey Antonio Gallardo.
A couple of late scratches, both from the barn of Richard Root, with Genuine Forgery taken out of the fourth and stablemate Howard's Edge from race eight.
