Talking about the last race trifecta which returned a cool $56,231 for the 8-9-11 combo of 22-1 Stariana, 30-1 Altamar and 80-1 Tesao. Not sure how anybody came up with that numberr other than someone born on Aug. 9, 1911 and it's doubtful too many 98 year olds are playing Calder today. Actually the winner had finhished second and third in two of her last three starts but that was in March at Tampa while the runnerup was third in each of her last two tries at the same level. Tesao took blinkers off and showed improved speed under the now 1 for 117 rider Ray Fuentes.
The incomprehensible finale overshadowed the game performance of Ifitwasntfor Texas in the REappeal Stakes as he withstood a stretch long challenge from perenniel hanger Chihulykee to narrowly prevail. As predicted, the 6-5 Rusty Charlie was still feeling the effects of his duel the previous week with Big Drama. Never made the lead, bore out into the stretch and finished a tiring fourth at 6-5.
Will call this a no bias day on the main track especially after the last two winners circled wide and from off the pace to get the money.
