Handling the switch to turf with no problem, Franny Freud (7th, $2.50) tuned up for a possible start in the Grade 1 Prioress (July 4) with a handy front-running score over five outclassed male rivals in the New York Stallion. Garrett Gomez put her on the lead at the break, and was basically just along for the ride through seven furlongs in 1:21.47 over a very firm Widener course.
The N.Y. Stallion was condensed into a single race after male and female divisions scheduled for last Sunday attracted insufficient entries.
Franny Freud beat the boys in her debut here last May. She ran a close second on the Pro-Ride to begin her season in the Santa Ynez, and since then has won the Grade 2 Beaumount on Keeneland's Polytrack, and N.Y. Stallion races locally on dirt and turf. Overall, she is 7-2-0 from 10 starts.
As the saying goes, the John Terranova-trained filly would probably run just as well over broken bottles, too.
