A little rain sure tightened up Big Sandy. After yesterday's sealed muddy track, the surface is back to "fast," and judging from the opener, it is extremely fast. Khan of Khans (1st, $7.10), whose two prior six-furlong dirt wins were accomplished in 1:11.80 and 1:12, turned back pressure from Natural Speed and Gimmearoutine through a half-mile in 44.96 seconds, and pulled away in 1:09.49.
Little Wise Guy had dead aim four wide at the quarter pole, but was outsprinted from there.
Speed figures to play well based on this result, but the 2nd, 3rd and 5th races are the only remaining dirt races.
There is a $30,364 pick-6 carryover, beginning with the 4th race at 2:36 p.m. Eastern.
