Bill Mott, who threw out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium last night, saddled back-to-back turf route winners Broad River (5th, $6.00) and Silk Route (6th, $9.70), each ridden by Kent Desormeaux.
Both were much the best.
Broad River,a 6-year-old horse dropping from $50k to $25k for his 32nd start, eased out three wide into the lane and drew away under a hand ride.
Silk Route, a 3-year-old filly by Empire Maker, was stretching out to 1 1/8 miles for her second career start. The Juddmonte homebred was briefly in traffic at the quarter pole, but ran to daylight and outkicked odds-on Home Rule to win with her ears pricked, as if she'd like even more ground in the future.
