Though he was fifth, beaten a dozen lengths in the 2004 Belmont Stakes, Rock Hard Ten was a classy horse whose 10 other career starts - all on dirt - resulted in seven wins and Grade 1 titles from seven to 10 furlongs.
Rock Hard Ten never ran on turf, but nevertheless is the sire of a trio of 3-year-old grass winners here in the past two days: Krypton ($6.00) in the Hill Prince; Shirley She Can ($16.80) - the first Nick Zito-trained grass winner in 2009-10; and Devon Rock (3rd, $7.00), a second-time starter who graduated as much the best after a mile in 1:34.81 on the Widener course.
Rock Hard Ten's sire is Kris S., and his grandsire is Roberto, so there's plenty of classy turf in his bloodlines.
