Alan Goldberg was already the leading win-percentage trainer heading into today, and improved his meet record to 7-3-1 from just 15 starters (46.6%) after Saga City (6th, $6.70) won his first start of the year.
Saga City, who lugged out badly and was basically eased at Monmouth Park last Sept. 24, was dropping from maiden special-weight company down to $16,000; the 4-year-old gelding is the latest in a series of layoff winners who have prepped at the Colts Neck Stables training center in New Jersey for Goldberg and owner Richard Santulli.
Scorper finished second. Studley, announced as a gelding for his first start since Jan. 1 and first on turf, was third.
