Whatever happened to the trend whereby after rain, the Polytrack began playing faster? Its warm today, which might mitigate things some, but even on cooler wet days this meet, that wet Poly = fast Poly (and often speed favoring) thing hasn't been going. Is it mere coincidence that AP totally turned over their main track this offseason?
Slow-ish times in all three races so far, and no surprises. Well, no surprises in terms of odds and results, but I still find it surprising that Mulata could have debuted with a $10K maiden-claiming victory on May 27, and, after a second on turf, won race 3, an Illinois N1X allowance, at odds of 6-5. Six-to-five! Came from way back under (another) well-timed Junior Alvarado ride.
Collidin, speed and the rail, opened 6-5 chalk in race 4. Rail? Okay -- Tax and Spend came up the fence to win race 2 nicely for trainer Rafael Flores. Speed? Not sold that's gonna work right now.
