Don't think Closeout is quite the horse she was at her peak last year and in '08, but she still deserved to be favored in featured race 8, got a perfect pressing trip, and yet was no match in deepest stretch for Single Solution. That filly, improving in her second start at age 4, made a solid sustained run from well off the pace, and did well to finish off Closeout after spending significant energy reaching contention in the final furlong. Lothenbach homebred by Flatter - Appealing Storm (Valid Appeal) and trained by Chris Block flirted with graded stakes last year, and could still have more to give.
Romacaca, who would have led, was scratched.
