Two races, two front-end winners, but, after watching a a third race and considering the first two, no bias. I mean, it'd be tough to claim any sort of speed influence to the surface when we just saw a horse set splits of 24.33 and 47.99 seconds for a quarter and a half. The class and distance of that race? Six furlongs, $50,000 claiming. Pace-setting Connections? A distant third. Likely speed Celluloid Hero stumbled at the start, leaving Connections alone through the absurd sprint splits (keeping in mind that there is a head-wind down the backstretch). Class-rising but favored in the early betting, was in hand to the three-sixteenths, but had no resistance when tackled by King A. J., who went on to comfortable win over Will's Honey.
Good to remember: It's often just a question of who can quicken late on the Poly, regardless of the early pace.
