Well, there's definitely no bias out there -- and at times, seemingly no logic to Poly-results. For instance, the pace for 8.5-furlong N2X allowance, race 8, went 26 and change for the first quarter, 51 and change to the half, 1:15 and change to three-quarters. Andt the horse in last turning for home, Paisano Creek, won for fun despite the race ending at the sixteenth pole. That's really hard to do on TURF! And on the main track? Got to get that Poly thinking cap back on.
Paisano Creek salvaged day for Wayne Catalano, who had favored Best Actor turn in disappointing showing the race before, an N1X route allowance. Donnie Von Hemel-trained Groom allied up the fence here to beat big price Crafty Ray. The latter ridden by Brandon Meier, who has been around the money all day.
Speed backed meekly away from moderate pace in day's only turf race, but results were logical. One to go on opening day.
