Okay, then. Funded betting account to play Zonker to win (heavily for me) in race 8, the 3&up MSW that was the best race on the AP card today. Zonker made a promising HAW dirt debut, and had posted fast works at AP for second career start. He finished last by many, and never even picked up his feet. Wrote in this space about downgrading importance of work times at AP - guess my own advice didn't take. Favored Backstabber had a really fast 5fs drill for his Poly debut, too, but even with a clear lead into the stretch, he was no late match for -- Bell by the Ridge? BBTR was 25-1, but I guess his win wasn't so outlandish. Closing fourth behind a couple return rivals here last out in his synthetic debut. Just that this horse had been claimed for only $25K three back at HAW, and doesn't at all have the look of an especially promising youngster. Several here in fact looked much more promising on paper, but no one fired. Little disappointing.
Backstabber's half-mile split was 46.60, the fastest of the day, but not all that fast. Final time for the 6fs was 1:12.24, by far the day's fastest sprint. BBTR rallied late and wide, just like most of the races today have been won.
This upset preceeded by two heavy chalks -- Dark and Beautiful and Ready's Clyde, both winning. D&B did come up the fence, but no one -- no one! -- else in this heat ran at all. Big class-dropper Ready's Clyde workmanlike in victory for trainer Dale Bennett.
