If you're looking to play the late Pick 4 at Arlington -- stop looking. There was a bit of a snafu earlier in the day, when race 9 -- a division of the $100,000 Illinois Owners Stakes -- briefly was cancelled after scratching down to a four-horse field. This was before race 1, a little prior to noon, and about 45 minutes later, the race was announced as reinstated. All well and good, but once the cancellation was put into "The System," there was no way to bring back the late Pick 4, which was automatically cancelled when race 9 was called off. All kind of weird, really.
This was a good Preakness Day card before rain did it in. Five grass races carded, and the idea that off-the-turf heats won't scratch down when the main track is synthetic isn't looking so valid here. Scratched by the scores in the day's scheduled turf heats.
